For more adventurous ramblers Jumbles Country Park, around five miles away, provides access to the West Pennine Moors.

The Birches is just ten minutes walk from Farnworth Leisure Centre, where the 25m swimming pool, gymnasium and all-weather sports field are complemented by a range of services and ancillary activities, including a teaching pool and a comprehensive choice of swim sessions. There are also two golf courses in the town.
Shopping
There is a good choice of local shopping, including butchers, bakers and convenience stores, in Highfield Road and Plodder Lane within a few minutes of The Birches, and the town centre supermarkets and specialist stores are only around ten minutes walk away. There is also a well-established street market held in King Street on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Transport
The Birches is convenient for both the M61 and the A666, providing easy commuting access to the whole of Greater Manchester. Rail stations at Moses Gate and in the town centre offer services to Bolton and Manchester Victoria.

Entertainment
Farnworth has a popular amateur theatre company presenting up to five productions a year, and there is a wide selection of bars in the town. The many attractions of Bolton town centre, with its choice of theatres, cinemas, clubs and bars – including the exciting new live music venue at The Soundhouse – are also in easy reach. Other attractions and locations in the surrounding area include the thriving city of Manchester which combines a mix of interesting Museums and entertainment facilities.

There are GP services nearby in Piggott Street, and Farnworth Health Centre provides a comprehensive range of health and welfare services including physiotherapy, dental care and speech therapy as well as GP services.
