Location
Cairnfields, Carnoustie offers a range of opportunities in an exclusive development in a bustling town just a short distance from Dundee.
Carnoustie, at one time known as the 'home of health and happiness', was a particularly popular holiday destination in the early 20th century, due to its golden sands and leisurely atmosphere which continues today. The town thrived thanks to its golf courses and its prosperous Panmure Works, which in its day produced some 500 million yards of textiles a year.
It has long held a reputation as one of the great golfing locations, renowned for being one of golf's greatest challenges and believed by some to be Scotland's true home of golf. Between 1898 and 1930 it is said that over 150 professional golf posts in North America were held by Carnoustie expatriates.
Today, the town hosts no fewer than four courses, and includes the large 4-star Carnoustie Hotel Golf Resort, built for the 1999 Open Championship, won by Scotsman Paul Lawrie.
Local Facilities
Eleven miles to the east of Dundee and conveniently reached by car, bus or train in around 20 minutes, Carnoustie offers a wide range of amenities including sports and leisure facilities, restaurants, hotels, shops and schools. The town enjoys views over the Tay estuary to the Kingdom of Fife and a £1million seafront regeneration is currently in progress.
Originally known as 'Karnousty', the name is said to mean 'Cairn of Heroes' and refers to a semi-mythical battle fought in the village in 1010 between Malcolm II and the Danes. The development is perfectly placed for a range of lifestyles, with the city nearby, yet with the
countryside equally close, and the miles of links ideally suited to walkers and golfers alike.
