Just 17 miles south west of Oxford and 72 miles from London, the historic Market Town of Wantage, nestles in the Vale of The White Horse, at the foot of the Berkshire Downs.

Most famous as the birthplace of King Alfred The Great, whose statue stands in the centre of the Market Square, Wantage is blessed with character, epitomised by fine 17th and 18th Century architecture, pretty cobbled streets and fine Georgian facades. Sir John Betjeman, Poet Laureate, also lived in the town for many years.

Wantage has kept pace with the times and is today a thriving community of more than 10,000 people. It is in the midst of a high technology and research area, close to AEA Technology, The Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Esso Research Centre and The Williams Formula 1 Headquarters.

The town offers a good choice of local and high street shops and banks. For a wider choice of shops, Oxford is 17 miles away. There are a number of good pubs, restaurants and hotels in the town.

Local services are provided by Vale of White Horse D.C. and the Wantage Hospital and Health Centre is part of The Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust. The town is well served with Primary Schools and The King Alfred Secondary School.
