McCarthy & Stone has been given the go-ahead to develop a collection of 62 Assisted Living apartments.

  • The one and two bedroom properties, designed specifically for those who want to enjoy the independence of retirement in a low maintenance and secure environment, will be situated on Bury New Road, only a short distance from the heart of Prestwich town centre.

Fiona Brooks, regional sales and marketing director, said: "We're thrilled to be adding to our property portfolio in Greater Manchester by introducing the McCarthy & Stone lifestyle to Prestwich. As specialists in this area, we understand what our customers want from their retirement. What we offer them is the chance to retain their independence whilst having the peace of mind of additional security, low maintenance and companionship."

With more than 30 years' experience in the later living sector, McCarthy & Stone currently has nearly 150 selling developments across Britain.

The Bury New Road apartments are being constructed exclusively for those aged over 70 who may need additional assistance with their daily lives, and will aim to bridge the gap between conventional retirement developments and residential care.

Each property will include design features including 24 hour emergency call points, a level access shower and bath, an electrically operated window in the kitchen, electrical sockets at a raised height to reduce bending, as well as being wheelchair accessible.

Additional facilities and support services will be available, including a shared lounge, a waitress service restaurant, offering a midday meal every day of the year, and a guest suite for visiting family and friends.

Furthermore, staff will be on site 24 hours a day and, as part of the service charge, one hour of domestic assistance will be available each week. For those who require it, personal care can be arranged, via an appointed care agency, to suit individual residents' needs as they arise.
