A decade after work began, Buckshaw Village is now a thriving community and many of those who bought there have chosen to move up without moving on.

  • They include Gemma Kirkby and Daniel Kidd who have just bought their second home at Buckshaw Village, near Chorley, Lancashire.

The couple were so happy with the Redrow Homes property that when they started a family and needed somewhere larger, there was nowhere better than another Redrow home.

Kirkby explained: "We're both from Preston and four years ago we were looking for a new build in the surrounding area and bought a three storey townhouse at Buckshaw Village. At the time it gave us plenty of space but we have since started a family and outgrown it so needed to move somewhere bigger. When it came to buying again choosing a second Redrow home seemed the right move."

Kirkby and Kidd secured a buyer in five weeks, enabling them to enjoy an easy move to a three bedroom detached Worcester-style home within the latest phase of the village, known as The Orchard.

"Our first Redrow home still looked new when we moved out," Kirkby added.

"When I viewed the Worcester I fell in love with it straight away and put a deposit down there and then. I like the look of it from the outside as it looks traditional but inside it's modern.

"I love the utility room as it means I can put the washing on and shut the door without having to hear it."

Over the last four years Kirkby, now 29, and Kidd, 37, have seen Buckshaw Village develop around them.

"I like that there's a primary school here because we now have a little girl. It's a nice village with a community feel. It's getting better and better with a supermarket now open and new shops and restaurants," Kirkby said.

There's also a community centre, all-weather sports pitches, shops including a chemist, hairdressers and convenience store, new doctors' surgery and a train station offering frequent services to Manchester and Preston.
