Taylor Wimpey gave brothers Tim and Rob Clare all the help they needed to step onto the property ladder at its Cedar Walk development in Birstall, Leicestershire.

  • Taylor Wimpey was able to help Tim Claire, 24, and his brother Rob to escape the rising costs of rented accommodation and secure a home of their own at its Cedar Walk development in Leicester.

By taking advantage of the FirstBuy scheme at the Taylor Wimpey Leicester development, the pair required only a 5 per cent deposit to afford their perfect property.

"Both of us work really hard and we were already paying out plenty of money each month to cover the rent on a townhouse," said Tim, the winner of Mr Leicester 2011 and runner up in Mr England 2011, reflecting on his move. "So we were really annoyed when our landlord put their fees up again.

"Now the price hike seems like a blessing in disguise, because it made Rob and I look around to see if there was an affordable way for us to become homeowners - and we found just that with Taylor Wimpey at Cedar Walk."

An online search introduced the brothers to the Government-backed FirstBuy scheme, which allows first time buyers to secure selected new build properties for just 80 per cent of their full price, including a 5 per cent deposit, subject to status.

FirstBuy works through a joint loan of 20 per cent from the Homes and Communities Agency and Taylor Wimpey, which is repayable at the end of the 25 year mortgage term or when the property is sold. To be eligible, purchasers must be first time buyers and their total household earnings should be less than £60,000.

"We saw FirstBuy was available at Cedar Walk, so we booked an appointment with the sales executives to find out more," added Tim, who juggles his job at Leicester City Council with part-time modelling work. "The sales team were helpful and informative from the word go, they answered any queries we had about the scheme and made the whole process seem straightforward.

"The sales executives showed us what was available at the development and with their assistance we chose a three bedroom detached house, which we were able to afford because we only needed a 5 per cent deposit."

The brothers are already enjoying life in their own home and really appreciate the help they received from the Taylor Wimpey sales team, the FirstBuy scheme and their grandma, who helped them out with the deposit.

"We look forward to going home after work because it's our own place, and we're so grateful to everyone who has helped make us homeowners," said Tim.

"Our new house is great, it's beautiful and it feels fresh. We've both got ensuite facilities to our bedrooms and we love having a garden and a garage, plus the property is in a superb location for travelling to central Leicester. And when we moved in, the sales team put the icing on the cake - by having a delicious homemade cake delivered."

One bedroom apartments are currently on sale at Cedar Walk from as little as £99,995, and two bedroom apartments from only £109,995, while three bedroom houses are priced from just £182,995 and four bedroom properties from £187,995.

All new homes at the development are completed to a high standard specification, including energy efficient central heating, double glazing and a fitted kitchen with integrated oven, hob and hood.

Nestled on the edge of Birstall village, Leicester, Cedar Walk comprises 108 new homes at Hallam Fields, just a stone's throw from beautiful open countryside and village amenities.

As the new community grows, it will benefit from a range of new facilities on the doorstep, including a new school, shops, offices and business units.

For commuters, the nearby A6 provides a quick link into Leicester city centre and Loughborough, while junction 21a of the M1 is just five miles from home.

A new park and ride bus service also operates close to Cedar Walk, providing a commute into the centre of Leicester, where a huge range of high street and independent stores can be found, alongside a wealth of cultural and leisure amenities. Fosse Park, a large retail development, is also within easy reach of the new homes.
