HSBC has been named as a Which? recommended mortgage lender.
Consumer body Which? has recommended HSBC as a mortgage lender for affordable homes.
Which? chose the bank as a recommended company after examining its customer satisfaction scores and the products on offer.
HSBC took the top spot in the firm's mortgage customer satisfaction survey, scoring 89 per cent.
In addition, the lender was commended for offering the most top 10 mortgage deals, ideal for new homes, in a selected four week period.
Brendan Cook, head of personal financial services at the bank, revealed that HSBC grew its UK mortgage lending by nine per cent in 2010, and has doubled their customer base over the past five years.
He commented: "This is testament to the ability of a prudently run bank to keep lending even in the midst of a financial crisis."
The Home Builders Federation (HBF) argues that more mortgage lending is needed to allow people to buy new homes.
A lack of affordable mortgages is the main constraint on the building of new homes, according to the federation. It is calling for a return to "sensible levels of mortgage lending".
