Britain's leading retirement specialist has taken inspiration from the local area to decide on the name for its new development in Paignton.

  • With construction well on the way for 54 one and two bedroom Later Living apartments on Manor Crescent, Paignton, McCarthy & Stone has decided to name the development Singer Court after Isaac Merritt Singer, the founder of the Singer sewing machine.

The development is situated close to the Oldway Mansion, which was purchased by Isaac Merritt Singer in 1871. To this day the mansion has kept his memory alive as a small museum displays exhibits linked to the building's history, including the famous antique Singer Sewing machines.

Aileen King, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy & Stone, commented: "We pride ourselves on building communities and not just homes, so we always aim to select names for our new developments that will have real meaning to the local residents. As with all McCarthy & Stone developments, Singer Court will offer independence combined with the peace of mind of additional security, low maintenance and companionship.

"And with stylish designs tailored specifically for the over 60s and an attractive location with access to a range of everyday amenities - Singer Court ticks all the boxes."

Singer Court is ideally located on Manor Crescent, just a short walk from the town's shops and amenities.

Each property will offer continued home ownership and will be designed with Later Living in mind, providing an environment that not only offers independence but also companionship, privacy and security.

Singer Court will feature thoughtful design features such as 24 hour personal emergency call service and a camera TV entry system for added security. A relaxed community feel will be created through the provision of a communal lounge and extensive landscaped gardens, with visiting family and friends also being provided for in the development's guest suite.
