Plans have been unveiled by a new joint venture between Redrow Homes and regeneration specialists Menta for a major residential scheme in central Croydon.

  • The new company, Menta Redrow, purchased the 120,000 sq ft Galaxy House, adjacent to East Croydon Station, from Bank of America in early 2013.

A planning application has now been submitted for the creation of 290 apartments at the site in four connected buildings.

If approved, the development could be the catalyst to kick start the long awaited further regeneration for the Metropolitan Centre and the East Croydon masterplan.

Located on Cherry Orchard Road in Croydon, over half the site would be dedicated to gardens, landscaping and public realm improvements.

Craig Marks, director at Menta Redrow, said: "We are delighted with the new joint venture with Redrow and see these new proposals as a great chance to play our part in kick starting regeneration in Croydon. The proposed redevelopment of Galaxy House is indicative of Menta's ongoing investment and commitment to Croydon. Subject to consent being granted, we will be on site in early 2014."

Keith Parrett, managing director of Redrow Homes in the south east, said: "These plans represent a significant and positive step forward for the further regeneration of Croydon. Subject to planning permission, we look forward to delivering much needed high quality housing to meet strong local demand."

The proposed development is for residential apartments in a generous landscaped setting. Residents have access to outstanding facilities. Furthermore, Galaxy House is perfectly positioned for commuters, with excellent transport connections around Croydon and south London and to central London.

Should plans be approved, enabling work will commence on site in November 2013 with an overall completion targeted for spring 2017.

Menta has already secured significant landholdings in the area around East Croydon Station, including the 54 storey Morello Tower, which has consent for a mixed-use development and four star hotel, which will also deliver a new station entrance.
