The NewBuy scheme has helped a couple secure a home in Watford.
The Government-backed NewBuy scheme is helping families find their ideal property at Taylor Wimpey's Leggatts Green development in Watford.
First time buyers are able to take advantage of a home with a 95 per cent mortgage at the site, with Michelle and Patrick Murphy one of the couples that capitalised on the offer.
They were keen to move from their existing one bedroom flat into a more spacious house that could accommodate their family.
With help from Taylor Wimpey and the NewBuy scheme, the couple have moved into a three bedroom house at the development, ahead of their baby's expected arrival in November.
Their reasoning for basing themselves in Watford is that it is within easy commuting distance to London for Patrick, who operates as a project manager.
Before securing the home, they determined a wish list of things they wanted for their property, including a nursery, a spare room and a garden, all of which are provided in their new house.
There remains a fantastic assortment of properties at the development, including four bedroom townhouses starting at £315,000, along with a variety of one, two and three bedroom houses from £149,950.
Michelle explained: "We were living in Cricklewood and we wanted to get onto the property ladder, but obviously prices in London are quite expensive, so it was easier to afford something outside London.
"Even still, without NewBuy we wouldn’t have been able to afford the sort of property in Watford we were looking for, as most places are looking for a 10 per cent or more deposit, which is an awful lot of money. With NewBuy, we only needed 5 per cent, which was great."
She continued by saying that their decision to move to the Taylor Wimpey development was finalised after looking at a show home.
The fact the property is based in a "nice quiet area" was also a contributing factor, with Michelle adding that the home is within easy reach of the motorway and close to two superstores.
