The house builder is celebrating after winning the prestigious 2013 Loughton Building Design Award for the "grace and elegance" of its homes at The Rodings.

  • Launched last year, the Loughton Building Design Award is intended to recognise and reward individual examples of good design and construction, and to raise public awareness of the built environment within Loughton, Essex.

This year, Redrow Homes in the south east was named joint winner for Borders Crescent, a regency-style terrace of townhouses, which is part of The Rodings venture on Borders Lane.

The Rodings has enhanced the town with more than 200 new homes, and has proved itself to be one of Redrow's most sought-after developments in the region. Borders Crescent was rewarded for its "admirable" design and innovation.

Town mayor, councillor Stephen Pewsey, presented a winner's plaque to Kerry Jenkins, head of sales for Redrow in the south east, at the annual town meeting at the Murray Hall in Borders Lane.

Jenkins said: "We are really proud to receive this award. It is a fitting tribute as the award was created to recognise examples of good design and construction and we thoroughly believe that Borders Crescent at The Rodings is a stand out example of a development that incorporates those important features."

Planning and licensing committee chairman councillor Chris Pond, added: "The concept echoes the idea of a Regency crescent, but incorporates modern features and design. It gives a grace and elegance to this part of Loughton, which is mostly utilitarian and is an admirable feature of the townscape for the 21st century".

The award was also presented to joint winner Sir Alan Sugar's company Amshold Group Limited, for its renovation and building scheme of Amshold House.

Due to phenomenal demand, The Rodings has now sold out. The development has been an incredibly popular choice for professionals, couples, investors and downsizers.
