Taylor Wimpey's Kings Quarter development of new homes for sale in Kent offered the perfect place for the Poples to start their new life.

  • Author Steve, 69, and his wife Sue, 66, started looking at new homes in Kent to be nearer daughter Jo and young grandchildren Zachary and Thea after their son-in-law Daniel passed away with cancer two years ago, aged just 39.

They were keen to ensure the transition was as smooth and stress-free as possible, so they were pleased that Taylor Wimpey provided just that at the Kings Quarter development of properties for sale in Kent.

The new houses in Kent enjoy an appealing location in leafy Chislehurst, with quick links into central London.

"Naturally, we wanted to be close to Jo and the grandchildren, to be there for her and to offer practical help with childcare, school runs and so on, which would enable her to continue with her career," says Steve.

"We'd been looking for quite some time for the right property in Kent, and had been focusing on the second hand market, but when we found out about Kings Quarter, we discovered the homes there offered good value - they were perfect for us."

Steve and Sue opted for a three bedroom 'Duchess' home at the Taylor Wimpey Kent development, moved in during December and haven't looked back since.

"Since settling in we've found the house has bettered our expectations of what it would be like to live in," says Steve.

"It's a great design, with clever use of space and plenty of storage. It's lighter, more airy and more spacious than we thought it would be - in fact, it's a bit like stepping inside the Tardis, thanks to the amount of space there is behind the front door."

Kings Quarter's convenient location also gets the seal of approval from Steve, an author of science books for Oxford University Press.

He says: "We've always liked Chislehurst. You really feel you are living in a village in the middle of Kent, thanks to the abundance of ancient woodland in the area, yet you're within the M25 and 20 odd minutes away from central London on the train.

"We're only a 10 minute walk from Elmstead Woods station, which is where Jo takes a train to get to her work near St Paul's, via Cannon Street. It takes her 40 minutes door to door, which is excellent. In fact, it took us longer to get from our house in Bristol to the city centre than it does from our new home into London."

Property seekers can currently choose from a superb selection of four bedroom houses at Kings Quarter, priced from £574,995, while stylish two bedroom apartments are on sale from as little as £244,995.

Kings Quarter is being constructed on the site of the former Ravensbourne College within the London Borough of Bromley.

Elmstead Woods railway station (Travelcard Zone 4) is ideally placed for commuters just half a mile from the new homes, and offers regular services to Charing Cross, London Bridge and London Cannon Street, while from Bromley there are trains to London Victoria, Blackfriars and Ashford International. Road links are excellent too, with easy access to the A20 for travel to Sidcup, Lewisham and on into London.

Nearby Chislehurst offers wonderful lifestyle opportunities and has managed to retain much of its original village atmosphere, especially around the common.

The town boasts a remarkable variety of shops within walking distance of the new homes and the bustling High Street includes elegant interior design stores, stylish boutiques and trendy cafes and coffee bars along with a Sainsbury's supermarket. The chic Royal Parade, meanwhile, offers genteel shops, art and antiques and exclusive designer boutiques.

Families will appreciate the choice of schools for children of all ages nearby, while a host of leisure opportunities are right on the doorstep including footpaths and cycleways linking the new homes to woodland and National Trust land. A lamp-lit tour of Chislehurst Caves, a labyrinth of miles of dark mysterious passageways hewn from the chalk beneath the village, is a popular local attraction.
