The Zero Carbon Hub task group has released its recommendations for carbon compliance levels for zero carbon homes from 2016.

  • Delivering its report to housing minister Grant Shapps, the task group has considered how to make the next steps in achieving zero carbon with on-site emission reductions (carbon compliance) as effective as possible, while being compatible with delivery of the full range of housing required.

    The task group's recommendations are that the built performance emissions from new homes should not exceed:

    - 10kg C02 per sq m per year for detached houses
    - 11kg C02 sq m per year for other houses
    - 14kg C02 sq m per year for low rise apartment blocks

    The task group will publish its final report in the New Year.
