About Bishops Green
Bishops Green is in Coundon, 2.6 miles outside the market town of Bishop Auckland and just 12 miles south of the historic cathedral city of Durham. A new home here is within easy reach of Bishop Auckland’s long high street, and all its independent and high street shops, pubs and eateries.
The town also offers two large supermarkets - an asda and a Morrisons - along with pharmacies, banks, and two fantastic local markets. Coundon itself is home to several pubs, takeaways, a Sainbury’s Local and a dentist. This really is a place you can put down roots and become part of the community. For a wider range of shops and amenities, or to enjoy some nightlife, the cobbled streets and bustling centre of Durham is a quick 20-minute drive north. The university adds to the vibrant life of Durham too, and the Regatta is a highlight of the summer.
There’s plenty to see and do in this lovely part of the country. Local days out include railway museum Locomotion, beautiful Hardwick Country Park and Auckland Castle. If you want to spend some time in nature, the stunning North
Pennines aonb can be reached in half an hour, or travel the same amount of time in the opposite direction to reach golden sandy beaches.
Bishops Green is in a great location for families with children. There’s a nursery and two primary schools - St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and Victoria Lane Academy - within walking distance of the development, while secondary schools and sixth form colleges can be found a few minutes away in Bishop Auckland and Tudhoe Grange.
Living in Bishops Green you’ll also benefit from great transport links. The nearest train station is in Bishop Auckland, where you’ll find direct mainline services to Durham, Middlesbrough, Darlington and Stockton-on-Tees, with connections to the rest of the UK. The area is also served by a bus network, and the nearest airport is Durham Valley Tees airport, just 17 miles away.
