When it comes to the many surveys regarding Britain’s best place to live, the town of Godalming always seems to come out near the top – and it’s certainly not difficult to see why.
Set in the attractive and affluent Borough of Waverley in Surrey, the market town of Godalming is something of a show-off when it comes to beautiful historic architecture. There are over 138 listed buildings in the town – 82 of which sit in the very centre alone. The town is well known for its many beautifully preserved Tudor timber-framed structures, as well as the curiously shaped 19th Century octagonal old town hall, known as ‘The Pepperpot’.
Popular market days are still held on Fridays and the town tastefully retains its character while still providing all the popular high street names – as well as an excellent selection of independent and specialist retailers. All the amenities you might need are conveniently situated close by. The town has a thriving Theatre and many of the lovely historic buildings contain quite an excellent selection of bars, pubs and restaurants for you to enjoy.
Godalming has ample bus links and is situated only 4 miles from the large bustling town of Guildford. The town’s railway station is noted for its elegant floral displays and provides regular services to London’s Waterloo Station and Portsmouth.
